New Invention in this movie?

In one scene, a sleeping man is snoring loudly. This wakes up his buddy who gets revenge by putting earphones on the sleeper and cranking up the volume on a transistor radio. This really startled me because, at the time, I didn't know when the movie was made -- I don't think a single car in the film was manufactured after WWII. Anyway, I was amazed to see this device in 1952 since the earliest transistors that I recall were circa 1957. Is this the earliest film appearance of such a device?

I just saw the scene that you described, and I agree -- that certainly does appear to be a transistor radio.

I can't figure this out, because according to a Wikipedia article, "the first practical transistor radio made in any significant numbers" was first put on sale in November of 1954, well before the release of this movie.

Quite puzzling!

That wasn't a radio - it was a hearing aid. When he snored into the mic, he woke himself up.

Well, i have a birthday card that mentioned all the inventions of my birth year. According it, the transistor was invented in 1948. Would be interesting to know the exact timeline of the inventions to follow.
