I have seen Moulin Rouge! the Baz Luhrman version. Do they have anything in common, or is the name coincidental?

My sax teacher recognized "April Again" (Where is your heart) was played in the background of the newer film. Probably just a passing nod to the original, though.

No, it is not a re-make. I wouldn't even allow a title to be used again. Witness the many times TV has aired movies with the same title and you think you are waiting for one film and get an entirely different film or an inferior re-make. Whoever programs the TV blurbs doesn't know one version from the other and obviously doesn't check the dates of release or the cast, or anything else.
