'A box of matches and a drop of you-know'?

When the two women come into Mrs. Riley's store, one woman asks for a box of matches and some 'you know'. Later when Mrs. Riley's going at it with the rent collector, the woman says she'll come back later for the 'you know', to which the man asks 'you know what?' But they never say what the 'you know' is. Does anybody know? Was it supposed to be liquor or something?

"A drop..." usually does mean liquor of some sort, and given the unusually strict liquor laws in England (as well as the somewhat frowsy character of Reily and her cohorts), I strongly suspect she would not be above running a still or illicit booze operation.

Almost certainly gin.
