Jonny

That's sad. I'm the first one to post a message about this movie. I caught it on TCM the other day. It's hilarious! I loved it. Does anyone know who the adorable little Johnny was? He was so cute. Good movie. I recommend it!

It is a good movie, but a bit dated by today's standards. Rather than Mr Deeds, it would be nice if they did a remake of this. Grant is a bit too stiff and it would be nice if they got a comedian who was looser. Also with the current level of special effects, it would be interesting to see them deage people.

Although I agree this film is ripe for a remake (while - simultaneously - wincing at the botch that would inevitably be made of it!) I must disagree that any "stiffness" on Grant's part is a flaw in the film. This slightly socially awkward posture is one of the reasons the film works as well as it does: Cary is playing a similar role to his character in "Bringing Up Baby": the somewhat "non-people person" that exemplifies one traditional view of the scientist. It is precisely the contrast between this sort of personality and the frenetic child energy of the result that makes what fun there is to be had in the film. Without it, there is little point to the experience. A modern performer (like Carrey for instance) who is already frenetic would be a big mistake. And the addition of CGI would be another waste of film on pure visual gimmickry in place of dialogue and acting. It isn't a very subtle film to begin with, and it could only be "improved" by discovering new subtleties with which to contrast with the formula's results.

I agree that the first part of Grant's role is fine - the stuffy scientist/ It is the regression roles that could have been looser.
The CGI could have used on Rodger part to make the actress older or younger. Someone who is in their 20s could have been aged or regressed with some changes in her face. Also the scientists at the end could have been ages backwards until you had kids playing the role (perhaps MM's part too). It would have added to the farce.

Grant role is fine, as are the regression segments. Not every child behaves in the same manner. The way it is, the adults are visible behind the kids. They didn't change personalities, just ages.
I also have to respectfully disagree with the physical aging. What makes the movie so funny is that there are (by all outward appearances) adults behaving like mischievous children. For a kid to act mischievously is more common and expected.

Johnny was played by twins, Christopher and Jonathan Milne. I wonder where they are today. They would be in their 60s, I suppose.
