Ginger Rogers overlooked

There are other threads complaining about Marilyn Monroe being so prominently featured on the various DVD and VHS covers. I don't mind that so much considering her sex appeal and the fact that many of the covers are from MM-themed collections. But what bugs me is, Ginger Rogers is on none of the covers. Ginger may have been past her peak as a star, but she is the leading lady of this film, and is very lovely and funny in it. There are even covers featuring Marilyn with Cary and a chimp, but no Ginger!

This carries over to the screen shots on IMDb. Marilyn is in every one, but there is only one with Ginger, and a rather unbecoming one at that.

She has always stood out to me as a remarkable actress. Not only divine for her dancing, but this woman can sing, and act, and she's a funny comedienne. It's rare to find a beautiful woman with such grace, charm and physicality, who is willing to put herself out there, be silly,...and not play up to wanting to only look glamorous, delicate and untouchable.

She is way more dynamic an actress than her known claim to fame would suggest.

That's one of the reasons I prefer Ginger Rogers' and Cary Grant's other film together, the underrated WWII comedy adventure Once Upon A Honeymoon. She's 10 years younger and absolutely gorgeous, at the height of her star power having just won her Oscar for Kitty Foyle and Grant's sole attention is on her with no other competitive female in sight. I remember when one TV station did a Cary Grant festival, their advertising said something like "Cary Grant and Marilyn Monroe in Monkey Business" with no mention of poor Ginger at all.

Today there are many beautiful actresses, and some of them can even act, but Ginger Rogers set the standard and she's still number one.

The above is a quote from a review in Once Upon a Honeymoon. I didn't write it but I wish I had.

I wonder how many of today's stars can claim that when they are not in hollywood making films... They are running their very own Dairy Ranch!

I've seen pictures of Ginger riding a Tractor and harvesting Corn. Feeding Chickens. Taking care of cows. Apparently had pigs too. Picking an apple from a tree...

And when she wasn't acting, or bottling milk...

She was a painter, and sculptor...

She also enjoyed playing several sports: Tennis, Fishing, Skeet Shooting... and apparently won some awards for some of those too.

To "celebrate", she always had her own Ice Cream Soda Fountain in her home... (She did not drink Alcohol!)

Actress, Dancer, Rancher, Artist, Sports "Star"... Beautiful & Kind too...

And NOT ONE COMPANY, has her on the cover, at least in the background? What's wrong with people?

I have to go on a mini-rant about this. This is an injustice that still continues to irk me: the prominent featuring of Marilyn Monore on the DVD cover and marketing of the film based on her! It's utterly riidiculous and a big bag of bull**** if you ask me...which no one is clearly. I admit to being a bit biased on this because I'm one of the biggest Ginger Rogers fans on earth, and I feel it's my sworn duty to speak out for lovely Miss Rogers in cases such as this.

Come on, Marilyn was in about 9 and a half minutes of this movie for crying out loud...and yet it's marketed as part of the 'Marilyn Monroe Collection'..ugh. Please! I realize they're trying to sell movies, but putting Ginger on the cover where she belongs, would sell just as many...probably more...and to people with taste!

Ginger was the leading lady, and a spectacular one as usual. Ginger and Cary always had brilliant chemistry together (see the above mentioned 'Once Upon a Honeymoon'). I always felt that Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers were the male and female version of each other - both amazingly talented actors in both comedy and drama, both physical comedians, and both unbelievably gorgeous to look at. It would have been so wonderful to see them work together on a few more movies!

And in terms of beautiful, sexy blondes, Ginger Rogers at forty can NOT be beat - even by a much younger, up and coming Marilyn. No way, no how. Check out gorgeous Ginger in (and out of) that cocktail dress at the beginning of the film...holy cow!

Anyway, rant over.
This is Ginger's movie all the way.
