Beautifully Done Movie

I got the DVD for Christmas and it was great watching it again (hadn't watched it in quite a few years).

I'm glad they tried to be as faithful as possible to this beautiful story.

Is the pilgramage of 1951 (at the end) real footage? does anyone know?

Sure looks like it.

It really is, Fátima has been a place of pilgrimage every May 13th, "Day of Our Lady of Fatima", and every October 13th, too, which was the day of the last apparition.

In 2006 the monastery was rebuilt to better suit the needs of the thousands of pilgrims who come every year to the Sanctuary of Fátima. Its importance was greatly increased after Pope John Paul The 2nd dedicated part of his pontificate to the Misteries of Fátima, and became a great believer in Our Lady of Fátima after surviving being shot by Ali Agca - a notorious incident which occured May 13th.

Currently the Catholic Church is amidst the canonization of two of the children who saw Our Lady of Fátima: Jacinta and Francisco. As for Lúcia, I'm not sure, since she died fairly recently and I believe these things take time.

I'm sorry for my poor English, but I'm not so keen in ecclesiastical vocabulary. Thumbs up from Lisboa, Portugal! :)

Your English is fine.

They usually wait five years after a person dies to turn in their 'cause' as it is called, for the process of canonization to begin. Exceptions were made for Pope John Paul II and, I think, for Mother Teresa (who has already had one miracle proved -- you have to have four). Francisco and Jacinta have two miracles each proved and were Beatified (you can call them Blessed) by JPII.

Not a religious person here, but I recently got the DVD and loved this movie almost as much as "The Song of Bernadette" (1943). It gave me the chills a couple of times, and the performances by Angela Clarke (Lucia's mother) and Gilbert Roland (Hugo) were simply superb. The kids were very good, as well.

As for your question, I'd say yes, it looks like it's real footage.

I wish Angela Clarke had made more films. She was also good in The Seven Little Foys (1955). I do wonder what Sammy Ogg, who played Francisco, looks like now as he was a very handsome little boy. He was 13 at this time and 20 when he appeared last in 1959 playing a 16yr old character so I'm inclined to think he kept his youthful looks. I'm curious because of some very attractive child actors who grow up into less than attractive adults, sadly. Mind you not ugly, just not what their youthful attractiveness would lead you to expect.
