THE MAN acts juvenile and immature

Not that the woman was perfect, nobody is, but I'd have to say 99% of the problems are caused by the man's juvenile and immature outlook on life.

And when he discovers that life is not just one big party, and he feels disappointed because he's just an ordinary joe with an average life..... he abuses his wife (not physically, but definitely mentally).

He acts like a little boy.
An immature juvenile.

Sadly I see this problem in a lot of married couples. Either the man or the woman are still immature in their attitude, with unrealistic expectations, and then they blame their partner (when they should be pointing the finger at themselves).

Agree, and not to 'sugar coat' decades gone by, wonder if this was rarer in the '50s. I would tend to think so....

I wasn't around in the 1950's but I would imagine if anything it was more pronounced in that era, mainly because the husband was often thought of (by himself if not by anyone else) as lord and master of the household and the woman must always give in to him or let him make all the decisions. I was kind of surprised the movie didn't go into more of that although Aldo Ray's character was clearly that kind of a guy.
