Somehow this movie makes me think of the electric car...

I wish someone in the movie would have made the point that even though some jobs would have gone away, millions of new ones would have opened up with all the new industries that would arise from such super-strong thread.

I watched this film with a polymer scientist and it's amazing how accurately the science was described.

The IMDB site says, "Create a new list", but how could I create an old one?

On a similar note millions who lived a life of drudgery, as stated by Daphne Birnley, through having to handwash clothes would have more time to enjoy leisure, get educated and perform less menial work. Washing machines achieved this for most of the west in the two decades following the films release.

The film is as fresh today as ever. You could replace textiles in the early 1950s for the taxi or hotelier industry today. The likes of Uber/Lyft and AirBnB have these industries - from the lowliest taxi driver to the mightiest hotel magnate - up in arms and in solidarity with one another against impending technological advantages. "Labour and Capital hand in hand" is how it is cheekily referenced in the film.
