GOOF GUYS, LIGHTEN UP

Abbot and Costello are a comedy team. Stop nitpicking over trivial things like verbal anachronisms. IT IS A GAG!

I, too, get tired of the GOOF GUYS getting picky about films like this. I've submitted an incorrectly regarded as a goof correction on this one for you.

The problem was the "drive a car" line simply wasn't funny. When the Marx Brothers did something similar in "Go West" -- Chico said, "Why don't we just telephone for help?" and Groucho replied, "This is 1870! Don Ameche hasn't invented the telephone yet!" -- it was hilarious because writer Irving Brecher obviously meant it as an anachronism gag. The line in this film is so lame it's hard to tell whether it was meant as a joke or just sloppy screenwriting.
