Valerie Singleton

In yesterdays Daily Mail the connections quiz asked "what do these 6 people have in common?" The 6 were, Arthur Mullard, Audrey Hepburn, Sid James, Robert Shaw, Stanley Holloway and Valerie Singleton. The answer was that they all appeared with Alec Guinness in The Lavender Hill Mob. Can anybody tell me what part she played? She isn't listed in the full credits for the film. I'm wondering if they got it wrong.

It's a bloody euphonium!

According to Wikipedia (not the most reliable of sources I know), she was probably one of the school girls which makes sense

Having watched the film again recently, there is an actress in the scene at the school who appears very similar in looks to Valerie Singleton. She plays the classroom teacher alongside Marie Ney's headmistress. Although the role is a non-speaking part, in one shot she looks remarkably like Valerie. This is perhaps where the rumour began for Valerie would only have been 13 or 14 when this film was made and so far more likely to be one of the schoolgirls rather than the teacher! Why doesn't somebody ask her if she was in it?

If she was 13/14 and had a credited part, she was probably the schoolgirl who refused to return the "flawed" souvenir to Pendlebury, thus giving the plot still one more twist. (She gave it to a policeman whom she had a crush on, which is why the pair had to steal it from the station.)
