Badass

I just caught this on TCM...normally these 'Dark Ages' epics strike me as being slow, plodding and boring...this film was amazing! The pacing, dialog and plot all moved fast enough to keep my attention, and the film offered plenty of action. (Jousting, a castle siege and trial by combat!) The film offered all the hallmarks of a great tale...romance, prejudice, political intrigue, a fight for justice & against ignorance.

This film is great...The Novel is a classic...I think it'd be a GREAT film for a remake (especially given to popularity of "Game of Thrones" and "The Tudors")

The religious intolerance of most tinseltown moneymen would remake this a toughie if the book were adhered to.

reply

The 12th century wasn't considered part of the Dark Ages.

Correct.
