Crappy Ending

Good Movie but a god-Awful way to end the tale. As if he would really throw away his knife! No Frickin Way!
Otherwise I thought the movie was entertaining and this from someone who doesn't care for Ladd very much and have never been able to stomach my way thru Shane as it was too sappy for me.

I totally agree...

I second the motion that he never would have dumped the blade....

Yeah, I didn't like watching Jim Bowie drop that valuable knife into the Mississippi. Who can say what goes on in the mind and heart of a man at such emotional times. But if history is any indicator, Bowie, was not a sentimental man but like most men of his time was hard-nails practical, who lived day to day in a time period where survival was a harder challenge than it is today.

In my judgment the real Bowie would not have dropped the knife but kept it because it guarded his life. Having killed several men in a duel or in self-defense, Bowie would have long ago rationalized killing with his conscience.
