Medical Significance of this film missed by reviewers

It is strange that noone noticed that this 'chick flick' 'soap opera' had a connection with progress in heart surgery for conditions due to rheumatic fever. Before penicillin and antibiotics, the damage done to the heart by rheumatic fever caused many lives to be cut short. Considering the current obsession with limiting the use of antibiotics and the continuing failure to routinely check for strep and other bacterial infections, rheumatic fever could become a horror again.

I believe this is the heart condition that singer/actor Bobby Darin suffered.

Good point. I just read a mystery from the 1940's where the plot hinges on a 20 year old man whose heart has been so compromised by rheumatic fever that he is not expected to live to 21st birthday.
