It looked to me like it was the Alps. They probably visited several countries in Europe.

I believe the place with the avalanche is supposed to be St. Moritz, Switzerland. Dan tells Ellen he heard Dr. Fromme was there when they meet at the top of the steps at what appears to be their chalet.
