Elsbeth Sigmund

I've always enjoyed this particular movie. Elsbeth was a pretty little girl. Does anyone have any information about her? Is she still alive? If so, did she quit acting?

I agree with you, Elsbeth is very pretty. I accept her as 'Heidi' with her blond braids although in the book, Heidi wears short, dark hair. As long she's not like Shirley Temple...:-)

Elsbeth Sigmund (born in 1942) is still alive, but after the Heidi movies she quit acting (or was forced to quit because she was everybody's 'Heidi').

My father (I'm from Switzerland) knew her, he met her in the 1960s when they lived in the same village. Elsbeth was studying to be a teacher.

She looks like a prettier, sweeter version of Melissa Gilbert in the photographs I've seen from the movie (wonder if Gilbert's LHOP look was patterned about Elsbeth?) This film was apparently a hit in America in a dubbed version and was released on VHS in the 1980's but it hasn't surfaced anywhere since in the States. It appears the first Heidi sequel "Frühlingslied" was not released in the USA but "Heidi and Peter" was and incredibly was reissued a good 20 years later for children's matinees in 1975! It too is super rare now although I did notice on ebay international you can purchase the first and last movies on region 2 dvds from European sellers. I would love to see these films as I've never been satisfied with any of the American productions of this story.
