I had problems with Hans character

On one side of the coin he's a great storyteller, a fine humanitarian, and a very moral fellow. Flip that coin and he's a love sick fool all ready and willing to steal another man's wife. It almost made him seem retarded. Opinions?

There is no "off" position on the genius switch.

Hans comes over as an innocent in the film. He makes the mistake of assuming Niels is a bully who treats his wife badly when the reality is the couple are genuinely in love. He doesn't see it as trying to steal another mans wife, to him he is saving her from an abusive husband.

He didn't seem at all retarded to me. Sure, he acts like a child at times, but that's because he has such an active imagination. And that is where all the amazing stories come from!

reply

The fact that Hans isn't just "one side of the coin" is what makes him a great character.

I doubt the real Hans burst into singing!

Its that man again!!

It's a silly plot. The real hans andersen fell in love with the swedish singer Jenny Lind, who was not married at the time. She did not return Hans's love, and eventually married someone else, but he remained devoted to her.

It's called being human. I've been in love myself.and totally besotted.
