I love this movie, I feel like I've been to the Circus!

Wow, I had no idea that people didn't like this movie either. I love the train wreck at the end and the wonderful real circus stars. The costumes are fantastic and the bright colors are amazing! It's got great lines and great actors. How cool to see such a young Charlton Heston.

For Academy Award Best Picture winners, there have been several that were popular favorites that may not have been deeply dramatic, like (and I'm not saying that these are awful movies),

Around the World in 80 Days, 1956
Gigi, 1958
Tom Jones, 1963

Whoever wins the Best Picture is just opinions and we all have those! I like to be entertained and this movie does it! I almost always cry at the end when they are looking for some way to save Charlton Heston. But by far, my favorite movie of all time is still, "The Best Years of Our Lives".

I really like it too and I think you have hit on a reason that is true for me as well: It makes me feel like I've been to the circus.

I love the documentary touches like when the roust-abouts are putting up the tent and Cecil B DeMille is narrating and talking about the life and death struggle that goes on every day and how a rip in the canvas could bring the whole thing down. I love getting to see the real circus acts. I like feeling like I've got sawdust in my veins.
