At one point, Armstrong brings out a reference book of some kind and reads from it to Kaznar. The information he reads is Meeker's character's name and birth date, nothing more. I rewound and watched the scene twice, but the book-reading is not explained and seems to have no connection to anything else in the movie.

Socks was born in Millwaukee and the eye doctor is from Millwaukee so the judge make a connection that Socks hired the doctor.

That is what he found out about Socks that Armstrong read from the book.
