Was this movie a Hit when it Opened?

In the trailer it says "1952's most talked about actress"? Did this movie get people talking about Marilyn or was she already being talked before this film opened?

Although this was her first starring role in a major film (if you don't count 1948's "Ladies of the Chorus,") MM was already a major name. Her pin-ups, her sad childhood story, the nude calendar scandal, and her very good performance in "Clash By Night" had made her a "star."

This movie did modestly well. Audiences didn't want see Monroe like this. A year later, "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" would certify her as a "real" star.
