Great movie!

I really, really, really loved this film. I've got it as part of the Marilyn Monroe Diamond Collection, and as I like film noirs I decided to watch it. It was great, and Marilyn's first really big part and showed her talent as an actress. I recommend it to all Marilyn fans and to anyone who likes film noirs or Richard Widmark!

I totally agree...Marilyn really could act. This movie is the proof. I really enjoyed this picture and Anne Bancroft was beautiful...

I haven't seen this film so far, but I remember a made for tv movie on fox years ago which sounded very similar to this, the main character even has the same name

I remember that Fox movie too. I don't remember the name or the name of any one who was in it. I watched it out of curiosity cos it sounded like it might be a remake of "Don't Bother To Knock". And it pretty much was.

And also her performance in "The Misfits" proves this as well..unfortunately her last movie.

I thought MM did really well and she really added a sympathetic twist to an unusual character, but overall I thought the movie itself was mediocre.

I liked the movie better than you, I think, but I was disappointed that it was shot in a flat, brightly-lit style. The director and his crew manage some good moments—a flicker of concern in Elisha Cook's eyes before an abrupt cut to a new scene; Marilyn swinging toward the ringing telephone which looms in the foreground. But, on the whole, Hitchcock or Jacques Tourneur this ain't.

I completely agree! This movie was excellant. The story was sad and somehow dark sort of, but beautiful. I think Marilyn clearly shined in this film. Her acting was right on and believable. Definitly one of her best!
