Is there?

Is there any film where MM does not play some type of Bimbo/Retard/Floosey etc.?

And also without that phony 'Happy Birthday Mr. President" voice?

reply

Gah, terrible, isn't it? I hated this film because of her - only bought it because it's got Richard Widmark in it. I felt like I'd overdosed on candyfloss after listening to Monroe's breathy wispy acting for two hours. Had to go and watch a good, salty Western :-)

reply

Watch her last film, the Misfits. It's beautiful and tragic. Oh, and in Bus Stop she puts on a rural Arkansas-ish Southern accent, which might drive you crazy after the first 30 minutes.

There is so much wrong with Bus Stop that I don't even remember Marilyn's accent.

Janet! Donkeys!

Well, when you can't act and you have to do what you know, you get Bimbo/Retard/Floosey. lol!

She was very fake and the whole breathy voice is fake too. The problem is her private life, which is why so many love her, even if she sucked in film. Being married at (I believe it was) 13 she likely viewed sex as her ticket to Hollywood. She slept her way into the movies and that much is fact.

To make herself sexy, she built this persona that producers/directors/movie runners expected to see on screen and sex sold at the time. Especially since censorship was in full swing. She exuded what they wanted and she molded herself into that. Unfortunately for her, it was for this reason no one took her seriously. She had a famous acting coach who clearly didn't cut the mustard.

In the end, Marilyn's only talent was sex and that was enough in that day. Sad, isn't it?

She was as phony as Drumpf - they'd have made a perfect couple.

reply

Who is Drumpf? If it's who I think it is, spare me. That has nothing at all to do with this conversation and needs to go elsewhere.

reply

The official name of the 'family' was Drumpf - you are not spared😄

reply

It has everything to do with this conversation - the essence of it is that the combination of celebrity. politics and the 'casting couch' - is the VERY SOUL of what you Americans have to live with for the next 8 years in the White House. There is no point sticking heads in the sand and say that discussion should be elsewhere!
