How authentic were the locations?

At the climactic end, were they really filming in Hitler's house? The movie was made in 1952 so I don't know if the ruins were still there then or if they had already been bulldozed. The picture window is infamous, but I didn't think it was that big.

Yes, they filmed the ending in Hitler's house right before it was bulldozed.

"I think you're the cause of all this! I think you're evil, EVIL!!!"

Some fake signs were added for effect, such as "Gestapo headquarters", etc, but the ruins were authentic, the infamous oversized window with it's mountain view isn't easy to fake.

Too bad all the polka music had been excised.

Whole sight; or all the rest is desolation.

I don't know for sure, but those signs may not have been fake. After the war, the former Nazi headquarters area was a big tourist attraction for American GI's stationed in Germany. One of the signs pointing to the general area listed, "Hitler's House, Goering's House, Borman's House, Gestapo HQ" with pointing arrow which I took to be authentic. Also, the area had been closed to entry and there were official signs up to that effect saying that the buildings were unsafe to enter.

I have bricks from the garage of Hitler's house which I took 20 years ago while on a visit there.
