One Of The Major Disappointments Of My Childhood

was missing this movie back in 1952 when it was in the local theater! Which must show that I didn't have a very rough childhood, huh? Happily sitting on a movie house seat sucking a Sugar Daddy in the dark and watching the latest thriller was a big part of it.

For weeks before Denver & Rio Grande actually played, they showed the trailer ballyhooing the "actual HEAD-ON collision of two BULL LOCOMOTIVES!" as if it were the Second Coming. Loving noise and violence like any 8-year old brat, I looked forward to it with baited breath. But the weekend the picture showed, my family took me out of town, RATS!!! It was the 1980's by the time I saw it on a 19-inch color TV. Finally got the dvd copy to see it on the much larger screen I have now that I'm so old I have more money than time (my grouchy old wife says it's "more money than common sense.")

I would have liked it a lot better as a brat, but still good (see my review).

I first saw this film when I was an eight year old,and yes i did like the scene of the the crash,I liked your comment about being an eight year old brat because I was one myself.

I could stage a more realistic looking head-on crash of two steam locomotives on my model railroad layout.  Considering that there were occasions in the early 20th century when two locomotives would be run into each other as a public spectacle I'm surprised they couldn't find film of something like that and splice that into the movie.

Bike Bill:

You apparently missed the point of my original post, my review, other reviews, other threads, and the trivia section that the train wreck in Denver And Rio Grand WAS in fact a real collision of two full-size, vintage locomotives.
