Things to learn.. (possible spoilers?)

I'm surprised to see how few threads there are here. I just assumed that because it's a Bogart flick it must be wildly popular. I taped it as an afterthought off of the Fox Movie Channel and liked it a lot, especially the rather open ending of the film as opposed to the hollywood one I had been expecting.

Two things I learnt from watching Deadline USA:

1) If you want to kill a guy quietly then shooting him until he falls onto a working newspaper printing press surrounded by dozens of on-lookers and reporter probably isn't the way to go.

2) Thurston J Howell III got his start extorting washed up boxers for a news story.

the great supporting cast is worth the price of the videotape...or netflix or whatever. Jim Backus, Ed Begley, Paul Stewart, Ethel Barrymore at her dowager best....need to check on the name of the actor who played Herman Schmidt he was great too....
And Bogie is at his hard-boiled best as well....I love how he switches from indifferent to a crusader once his reporter got beat up by Rienzi's goons. A lot of fun!

...played Herman...had not encountered him before, but he was good in Deadline USA. Lots of TV credits acc. to imdb.

How can you "not" mention Kim Hunter? She was absolutely brilliant as Bogie's ex. Check out her scenes with Bogie in the restaurant and in her apartment when he stumbles in sideways. Her work is emotionally honest, real, and spot-on - nothing "actor-ish" about it. Yet again, all of her work is.

And it's still not available on DVD (at least not on Netflix anyways). Seems a shame.

Kasia Orzazewski!

Let's just say that God doesn't believe in me.

Just watched it on TCM- first time they have shown it. I am a Bogie fan and loved this movie and all the familiar faces of years past. It does not exist on VHS or DVD.

Showed it on Cinemax of all places this morning at 5am!
