James Dean is a press boy at the beginninig of the film.

Future movie legend James Dean can be seen as a press boy at the beginning of the film, sorting newspapers next to Jim Backus (his future dad in Rebel Without A Cause (1955). This early appearance is included in the new documentary, James Dean - Forever Young (2005).

Your message sent me running to my copy of DEADLINE USA.

Damned if I can find the sequence you're referring to.

I just looked carefully for it, too.

It's not there.

I finally found it!

It's part of a montage shot that includes the press room.

Dean is more or less INSIDE of the press, setting it up for the coming run.

He briefly speaks to Bogie as he's passing thru the pressroom (we can't hear it because of the music). Dean is wearing one of the folded hats made of newsprint that pressmen make to keep the ink out of their hair. Dean smiles broadly.

He's on screen at most 2 - 3 seconds; be ready on the freeze button to get a good look!

Wow, I was looking at the beginning, I'll check it again, thanks.

Cool old movie that I just started watching.

Got it!

Doesn't look like James Dean to me, only a slight resemblance.

James Dean appears around 33:10. It's a cool scene between Bogart& Dean, they're both exchanging grins

So for YOU, it didn't happen. Who cares about YOU???

Research it for YOURSELF if you want pictures, lazy toad.

reply

Actually around 33:33 on the DVD.

Curious that the villain's name is Rienzi, also the name of Wagner's first opera. Is he supposed to be a Wagnerian villain?
