Strange Plot Description - Can someone read this and help me out?

Came across a Blockbuster Video book, "The Greatest Movies of All Time" (1991) that gives the following description of "The Crimson Pirate."

A swashbuckling spoof. A buccaneer captures a ship headed for the Caribbean and learns that the islanders plan to rebel against their French rulers. The buccaneer intends to profit from the situation by pitting both sides against the other. Noteworthy as the first pirate picture to succeed since
World War II features a scientist who develops a super-weapon that looks suspiciously like an atom bomb, also making this the first move to spoof the atomic issue.

It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I have seen it enough in my life to know it pretty well. While the first part is not how I would describe the plot (if someone read it to me I wouldn't recognize it as being "The Crimson Pirate"), the SECOND part, the part about the super-weapon that resembles an atom bomb - is that even in this movie??? I don't recall anything remotely like that AT ALL. I'm wondering if plot of another movie was accidentally put with this one.

Am I forgetting something?

reply

No,you aren't forgetting a thing.I just watched TCP tonight & there isn't anything resembling an atom bomb at all in the movie.Professor Prudence does make a powerful explosive that a friend of his invented. But its along the lines of nitroglycerin, not atomic power.

Probably talking about the Professors super-refined version of Nitro-Glycerine, with typical reviewer hyperbole. He claimed it was 1000 times more powerful than the original recipe, but when he used it it failed completely.
