Just finished watching this on dvd, along with 'we Are The Lambeth Boys', and didn't think it was bad.

It was certainly better than most of the reviews here suggest.

I myself just saw it on late night/early morning Australian Tv. I thought it was quite all right.

Thought struck me-the copers left Roy to Bob's tender "mercies2.What if he fought back and they came back to find Bob with a knife in him?I didn't like either of them,I must admit.

Underrated. The husband was a good actor. The ending was very good as well.

Can't agree. I thought the guy playing the new step father acted kinda bad, just seemed out of place. The ending was dumb - all "Walshie" (hated when the one boy would say that) needed was a good thrashing and he would be ok? His terror of being whipped was unrealistic.

I thought the other movie on this set, the one with the halfway house for women with invisible babies, was better.

I have mixed feelings about the ending. Although it was sort of satisfying to see the little **** being give a good thrashing by Bob, it was actually a bit nasty when you think about it - Bob's not just giving a little kid six of the best across the backside, he's attacking an almost grown man violently with a belt. This serves no purpose other than revenge, because he's already going to be sent to jail. I'm not against reasonable corporal punishment - I was smacked as a child and I don't think it did me any harm - but this just seemed a touch too sadistic.
