Why did this movie get such high ratings? *SPOILER*

I just saw this film for the first [and last] time yesterday. I guess it wasn't awful, but I often feel this way when there are NO likeable characters in the film. Doc was just downright distantly rude. Marie was an airhead with a muscle-headed jerk for a boyfriend -- and not much better for a fiance. And Lola was like Edith Bunker without her meds. I REALLY wanted to like her because she was a lonely and sympathetic character who seemed to just want to care for those around her, but her constant mindless jabbering with anyone within earshot was just annoying. I even felt like I was cheated by the ending -- I mean, did either of them really learn anything about themselves or were they just destined to make each other miserable for ever? It just felt so unresolved. Just IMO.

"...and I would've gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids."

The conclusion indicates that could be a distinct possibility.🐭

I am watching the film for the first time today and also the last time. I'm fast forwarding it because I'm really having a hard time with Lola. I also wanted to like her but she just talks and talks. She spies on the young couple, keeps talking about Sheba. I really give anyone a lot of credit for sitting through this movie.
