Shirley Booth - One of The Most Deserved Oscars Ever!!

Shirley Booth's unforgettable performance in COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA has got to be one of the most deserved Academy Awards of alltime. The other ladies might as well have stayed home that night, can't believe anyone would think they would beat Booth that year.

My personal alltime "Most Deserved" Best Actress Oscar Winners

1 - Vivien Leigh GONE WITH THE WIND
2 - Shirley Booth COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA
3 - Jane Wyman JOHNNY BELINDA

Shirley Booth as Lola is the single most moving performance by any actress in a film that I've seen.

You have a great list there, can't disagree with any of your picks.

I think it's a shame Shirley never got another great role like Lola again on film although she is quite wonderful in her other starring films (especially the comedy The Matchmaker . As you noted, she is an extraordinarily moving actress when given poignant material.

She was mostly a Broadway actress. She appeared on Broadway from 1925-1970 (3 Tony awards).

I agree. Leigh in GWTW and Hayward in IWTL are the runner-ups.

Insofar as she created a character with virtually no surface attractiveness, yes, perhaps she is very deserving.🐭

I wish I had the chance to see her on Broadway. Shirley was brilliant in all I saw but Come Back Little Sheba was divine. She made me feel like I had a real front row seat in watching Lola and Doc's life. The character felt so real to me. I think she is one of the few actresses in history to actually deserve her Oscar.
