i saw this flick when i was 5 years old and the ending where blackbeard is buried with his head sticking out of the sand kind of traumatized me. the sadism of it stuck in my mind my whole life.

Very funny. I'm laughing because I thought that I was the only one traumatized by the ending. My dad was watching this movie on our old black and white Zenith TV, when I was not quite 7, and the ending horrified me. Every time we went to the beach after this, I kept reliving that ending. And this ending has stuck in my brain until I just found it on YouTube and came here after watching it.

They used to play old movies all the time and I vividly remember watching that scene and being so scared. I was probably like 6 or 7 at the time but it has stuck with me after all those years.

It was rather gruesome but the fight scene before he was buried was rather silly.

I agree. I remember watching Creep Show back in the early 80s and Leslie Nielson of Airplane and Police Squad fame does something similar when his character buries his wife and his wife's lover (Ted Danson pre-Cheers). The two them come back to life and haunt Nielson before burying him the same way. Just really creeped me out.
