Something that puzzled me (slight spoiler)

I was watching the movie tonight on THIStv, and perhaps the usual domestic distractions caused me to miss a line of dialogue, but I was wondering:

Toward the end, after Blackbeard has re-captured his ship with a new crew consisting of his old crew augmented by some menacing Asian-looking plug-uglies, his old crew fall out with him and plan to do away with him. Blackbeard, however, turns the tables on them, and after killing a few of them, has the Asian-looking guys lock them in the hold. Once the old crew are locked up, that monkey-like Cockney type pirate starts laughing and indicates they aren't as trapped as Blackbeard might think. The next thing I knew, the old crew has escaped from the hold--presumably killing all the Asians, who seem to have disappeared--and overpowered Blackbeard.

How did the old crew escape from the hold? Did Maynard set them free as a diversion while he and Edwina jumped ship? Or did the monkey-like pirate reveal some secret escape route from the hold that only he knew about? Even with Maynard's assistance, or some secret trap door out of the hold, it seems like these half-dozen or so disarmed pirates defeated the Asians (who not only outnumbered them, and were heavily armed, but looked pretty tough and ruthless) all too easily.

Obviously Gilly knew of a way out that Blackbeard(and the others) did not. As far as the Asians, Blackbeard had got them out of the way by telling them to go have themselves some rum, so that he and the remaining Asian(whom he probably intended to kill) could bury the treasure. After the crew grabbed Blackbeard. it would be easy to surprise and dispose of the Asians, who were probably drunk.

i agree Gilly obviously knew a way

I think he said to Maynard earlier in the film, that he knew a lot more about the ship than Blackbeard himself.🐭
