Picture on Desk

I'm watching this movie now (and loving it). There's a picture of someone in uniform on Ida Lupina's character's desk... and it looks just like Joseph Cotten. Is this possible? Anyone else notice?

reply

I've wondered the same thing but it's not Cotten - my guess is William Talman.

I'm sure it was Tallman. I wonder if it was some kind of inside joke. Maybe because Tallman usually played psychopaths, and Helen Gordon was the widow of a heroic soldier (the photo was of Helen's heroic husband).

More likely Talman was a contract player at RKO, his Hamilton Burger days several years down the road, so he had to do as he was told, thus if someone says, "Bill, get in costume and pose for a picture for a movie", he does it. I doubt there's anything more to it than that. The first time I saw the movie I noticed that it was Talman right away. He had a very distinctive face.

That's him all right. And he had done the main villain in another Lupino company film, The Hitchhiker.

He does look like Joseph Cotten. But I agree with others on here who say it's William Talman. I would think that it is a photo of him as Colonel John Parker in 'One Minute To Zero' in his army uniform. 'One Minute To Zero' was filmed about the same time as 'Beware My Lovely.'
