Jerry Lewis Never Sued Sammy Petrillo

Hello,

After reading several comments regarding Jerry Lewis suing Sammy Petrillo over his impersonation or being a look-a-like, etc in the movie; let the record show that all of these comments are wrong in this regard.

According to Mr Petrillo himself, "It never happened". This quote comes directly from Mr Petrillo and can be found in a 2008 interview he did with Monroe Mann on "Before the Big Break!"

That interview can be seen here:

Say what you want about this Martin-Lewis ripoff duo. At least Sammy Petrillo never played a clown entertaining the children at a Nazi death camp, a role that Jerry played in his own film, "The Day the Clown Cried (q.v.)."
Now THAT is in bad taste.

Jerry Lewis is a class act. The film you mentioned was never released. Lewis tried something different and it didn't work.

Jerry Lewis is a rude a-hole, pure and simple. I met him on a set once and was very much put off by how he treated people. He was obnoxious, rude and arrogant.

You might very well be correct in your statements about Jerry Lewis, however; when you make sweeping, broad and negative comments about a person (however true the might be) you should add some details such as:

I was a 34rd AD working on a production of xyz in the spring of 2001 in Florida and I witnessed him acting like a jerk towards the extras, craft catering, etc.

You know, lends credence to your position.........

reply

He already said he met him one time, hardly a broad generalization, he doesn't have to disclose where he worked either, youre kind of just being a nag

If you don't have anything relevant to the discussion, butt out.

This discussion board is for mature, intelligent adults who love movies.

reply

Its literally about the discussion, just because you don't like my input doesn't mean its not relevant. Try again. Maybe without being a pompous douche this time

And if that was in the 1970's that you met Jerry-You are probably correct. Jerry himself will readily admit, that during the Percodan period, He was an addict-and a mean one-to practically everyone that crossed his path and pissed him off.
I admire Jerry, in that he is at least, willing to admit, that he does, have faults-even at the age of 89.

If some idiot demanded that I had to "pad the details" of all of my memories, I'd just start pulling all of that extra info out of my ***! Sometimes, a few of our memories (random ones, of course) will be that super-detailed out the wazoo, but usually our memories are not as anally retentive as people like nagmashdriver unreasonably demand, which makes demands like his stupid.
Update
If I want your opinion, I'll GIVE it to you.

Hal Wallis, who had Dean and Jerry under contract, threatened to sue Jack Broder, Executive Producer of Petrillo's movie, but nothing came of it, other than Wallis and Broder never speaking to each other again.

At least, that's the tale that I read.

Generosity, that was my first mistake
