This movie is very close to the actual happenings, that began the Apache wars. Mickey Free, the child kidnapped by another Apache tribe, gained infamy as a tracker- translator for Army. He however was never truly trusted by the Army. He was there when Geronimo surrendered.
shareI wrote the above review before I had seen the ending. It is there that Hollywood deviated greatly from the truth. Cochise never went to the Army for help during the fight. Up til then this movie was close too the truth. This was the only time that the Apache faced Army howitzers. Also the Apache did not stand up and expose themselves to enemy fire. The Apache would pile up rock breastworks, and fight from behind them.
shareI never knew that they used howitzers at that time. I had always imagined them to be a weapon of a later date.
