How do you make great people hate great guy? They seem right at first and at the end they are wrong and you are feeling this with them all along? How do you make this convincing in a movie? How do you avoid showing it without cheesy melodrama(well almost - car scene should been cut) and cliche voice overs (citizen kane)? This movie is pure brilliance and best movie of Kirk Douglas
shareWell, you ALMOST had it right...the car sequence is brilliantly lit,
staged, directed and performed by Turner. There's a place for hysterics
(people DO have them, you know) and the breakdown scene makes total
sense, given the emotional hell Georgia has just undergone. Furthermore,
Turner's tremendous subtlety in that preceding scene (she has virtually
no dialogue, yet her quiet shock is given Minnelli's total attention)
only underscores the power of the car moment which follows.
