Interesting movie about a really terrible, clumsy spy

I like this movie but as far as sleuths go, Michael Todd's is way inept:

Shaking down a baddie?: Todd leaves the dummy alone in the hotel room to get him a drink, and returns to an empty room. (!)
His conclusion: "I'm slipping. 10 years ago I would have made him talk before I got him a drink. 5 years ago I would have locked the door when I went to fetch it."
(Ugh ...ya think? Why get him a drink at all? What are you, a waiter? And the door? the stoolie left through the window.)
Hiding from evil cabal: He accidentally knocks over a stack of boxes
Hiding from evil cabal, part 2: He acidentally fires up a glass-blowing furnace, THEN knocks over a stack of boxes.
He gets misdirected by the moll
He gets nabbed hiding among the mannequins when he sneaks into the palazzo.
He gets punched out outside a church
He gets punched out by Ucello.

He also took the blame for a killing he knew nothing about (according to Rosa)
