That's Picacho Peak on the northern edge of Tucson, Arizona. It's very obvious in a scene with the train station labeled Wendover and the peak on the left side of the screen and a large locomotive on the right side.
shareExteriors were filmed at Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, which doubled as Wendover, and as North Field, Tinian later in the film. Paul Mantz did the aerial filming from his modified B-25 camera ship. Interiors were done at MGM using their sectioned B-29 fuselage (originally used for "The Beginning or the End" in 1946). Btw, when we visited Wendover in the early '90s, it was essentially deserted with the original tower, hangers, etc. in sad shape. It is now being restored and open for tours.
