Nadira's eyes and eyebrows - loved the OTTness

Loved it!

For a debut film this was a brilliant performance.

And yes, I accept that the eye acting is not in keeping with acting nowadays but I felt it suited this film perfectly.

Nimmi's Mangla also did weird things with her eyes but again enjoyed that too. There were times they were as wide open as possible and at other times they were nearly closed (as in the dream sequence).

I really have nothing against overacting. I like Toshiro Mifune in "The Throne of Blood" and Nikolai Cherkasov in "Ivan the Terrible". I like the expressionist film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari". But I really disliked Nadira's performance, especially her way of using eyes and eyebrows.

That I could underwrite. But it makes Rajshree repellent for me. Which is perhaps intended. But then how can Jai fall in love with such a creature. Only because he loves to tame wild things? Because he wants the princess under his boots? I have often watched such stories. But not with actresses using their eyes and eyebrows in such an excess . Nadira felt to me as if she played a "Walt Disney" female villein like Cruella De Vil.
