Interesting that finances are a constant theme. My guess is Miss Brooks would have been bringing home about 10 Bucks a day, net. And at this time --the post WW2 generation she would have been in only a tiny percentage of W' with a degree. She didn't need the gig.

So she wanted Mr.B not only because he was hot but because she couldn't live alone on what she was making. And if she got married she almost certainly would have lost her job for several reasons.
