Mr. Boynton? Gay?

I do not care what decade it is. No man would be going on dates with a woman for 5 plus years and NOT do anything. No woman, would even put up with it as well for that matter. It is completely unrealistic. They still call each other by their last names , even away from school??? Ridiculous and unbelievable.

reply

Obviously you are really dumb. No he is not gay and your inability to understand the character and the TV ways of the era make me wonder why you would want to waste your time watching this show, if you really do.

reply

There is no need to call me dumb. I offered my opinion. I actually like the show and I do NOT think pointing out something as unrealistic makes me unintelligent. It would be more understandable if they were NOT dating at all. Whatever time period, both males and females still had sex drives.

reply

Your talking about a time when married people had to be shown in twin beds. This is a era when people were suppose to wait until marriage. I think them calling each other by last names was suppose to reflect the innocent times that TV shows were projecting back then.

reply

Exactly. Unmarried people screwed back then but television didn't even acknowledge the reality that married people had sex.

reply

I get that and know that even couples had to pretend marriage to get hotel rooms. However, it was 5 years[ I presume 5 years all the time, since the kids were always in HS],and the man still did not try to hold her hands or kiss Connie. That is ridiculous even for the 50's, especially more so, since it was mentioned on some episodes that even nerdy Walter Denton was making out with Harriet Conklin...Yes, I know they Connie and Phil got married in the movie .

reply

That was the presumptive humor of the show, coupled with the social norms of the day. Boynton was not gay, and Connie's constant pursuit of him was part of the gestalt of the program.

Try not to bring this generation's values into a sitcom that's 65 years old.

We don't wear bustles or garters anymore...

reply

I know he was not gay. I was being caustic. That said, I stand by that at the least they would be making out at times, as they alluded with the kids, Walter and Harriet.

reply

1952. No one made out on tv.

reply

I used the word ALLUDED. Look it up in the dictionary.
