Struggling to enjoy this show

I can appreciate the general innocence of the characters and the dialogue, I can accept the obvious production limitations of an early television series, and I can actually enjoy the crazy plots (sometimes).

However, several things about the series grate on me, including Margie's high-pitched, razor-sharp voice, her repetitive lateral eye movements, and her non-stop boisterous enthusiasm and mischievous prankishness. There doesn't seem to be any relief in the script — the episodes (at least those that I've seen) seem to run at a continuously elevated pitch, with dramatic exaggerations that are more suited to the stage than the screen.

I would never presume to criticize a series produced 60+ years ago — I'm merely describing the challenge I have enjoying this series in 2016 when so much television history has occurred between then and now.

Movie girl: I can appreciate everything about the show - from the marvelous theme music all the way to the end. I love Margie's vivacious personality and many of the exaggerated situations. As a young child I first saw the show and love it now as I did then. I do not think there are any limitations - production wise. Once I start watching, it does not matter that it was B&W. The whole show was beautifully done. I love the sets and all the cast. I would be happy to live at the Carleton Arms too and have the Albrights as neighbors.

A real test of time is that it still appeals to me, though a few years - lol, have elapsed. Whether from the vantage point of a child, a teen or an adult, I have seen them all. Margie rules (as my young nephew said recently).

The neat thing is that when I joined the fan club for Gale Storm about ten years ago, I found many people with similar opinions.

Of course, everyone's opinion is important. Some things can irritate, but the big picture is quality. I tell my children's friends that = B&W Versus Color, or time periods doesn't matter. Soon they were joining me watching the show.
