Show continues to surpise me

This show has its good and its not so good episodes.

But what surprises me is that there are tropes used that I would have asumed to be far more recent. For example, in one episode, they get kidnapped during a prison riot. These days, this is a staple for nearly every detective show, but I wonder if this was possibly the first use of this plot on TV? The same goes for the tiny nuclear bomb and the planned terrorist attack against a civilian target. That plot just does not sound very 1954 to me, so I was very surprised by it.
