Dress for a Desert Girl = A Mighty Fine Shindig?

I can't be the only one who has watched both "Dress for a Desert Girl" (Death Valley Days) and "A Mighty Fine Shindig" (Firefly). Anyone else notice the similarities between the episodes, namely, Cynthia and Kaylee, in their singular pursuit of a pretty, pretty dress? I think Cynthia even looked a little like Kaylee. And the husband, Zeb, was just as mean to Cynthia as Mal initially was to Kaylee. Cynthia even dreams about wearing her dress to a fancy dance or like Kaylee ended up doing..a mighty fine shindig ;)

Anyways, I thought it was pretty neat. Obviously, Firefly is a big ol' space western so I wouldn't be surprised if Joss had seen some episodes of Death Valley Days.
