Ronald Reagan and 'Death Valley Days'

So, who else remembered that Ronald Reagan had been the host of "Death Valley Days"? My husband remembered. Isn't the Internet wonderful? I was able to find out that yes, it was true.

We are running one of his episodes on our free webcast this month. www.deathvalleydays.com

I remember it clearly. In fact, when he was President, many people referred to to it in connection with some of his more hawkish policies, saying things like "If he's not careful, we'll ALL be on "Death Valley Days!"

Yeah….
Funny how time puts everything into perspective. Turns out Reagan was one of America’s more effective/beloved presidents.
I wonder if the same can/will be said about our current president.
As for Death Valley Days, I’ve only seen one episode, and didn’t even had Reagan in it! Lol!
But I’d like to see more of this show… From what I’ve seen, I liked it!

Trust me,

My, you're nosey, aren't you?

Not only did he host it, for just one year, the 1965-1966 season, but he also acted in several episodes and those are his very last acting roles. (I know, some will dispute that, but of course I mean official acting roles). He left the series to run for Governor.

Probably anyone over the age of 55 who grew up with a TV in their house.

He took over as the host after the old ranger died. He and his wife were both stars on many episodes. I remember watching the show when I was young. I was born in 1945. Great shows. Was sponsored by 20 mule team borax. For years. If you see the mule team at the end of most of the episodes.

I saw a number of the programs where Ronald Reagan acted in them. I wish I could obtain from Netflix the programs that just had him in them but I don't know if they are separated in such matter. I rented from Netflix some disks of GE Theater that included him in some of the episodes but I had to get the disk before I could find the ones with him in them. I remember an episode of Wagon Train that had him as an army commander. I would really like to see the program where he was a doctor and James Dean was running from the law and forcing Reagan to treat another man on the run who had been wounded in what I think was a robbery attempt.

There are a number other anthology programs in the early 1950's that he was in so he was pretty busy in TV and saw where it could go when a lot of "established stars" thought they were too good for TV.

I have been watching the shows on encore western channel and they never show the ones he hosted. They go right from the Old Ranger to Robert Taylor. The ones he hosted were 1965-1966. And then some with Dale Robertson. So look for the ones in those years. They do show some he and Jane Wyman (his then wife) star in but none that he hosted. I preume it's the ones they have the rights to. Might be some legal thing. Reuns are still great to watch. Always was a great show. This channel is great to watch all the older westerns on.
