Why did Stanton (John Hoyt) want to . . . .

. . . . go on the flight in the first place? It was going to be years -- if not decades -- before roads & sidewalks were going to be built on the new planet. (And by then, he'd likely be dead)

How would he have gotten around until then?

reply

Well, he's dead anyways. But he wanted to live, so he financed the deal. πŸ’°πŸ’€πŸ˜΅

It's interesting that if Stanton had gotten on board, he couldn't have taken his money with him. Owning gold was illegal then and I doubt that the team would have allowed any on the ship for that and weight reasons.

Who would be willing to take care of Stanton knowing he shot the last one who did? Would gold even be an acceptable medium of exchange if Stanton were the only one who had any? How would he protect his stash if it was?

In my sequel Stanton does get on board with his gold, but it is extremely common on Zyra! The now extinct Zyran race found a way to manufacture it as in the The Rip Van Winkle Caper (1961), one of the original Twilight Zone episodes.

Well, since it was Stanton's MONEY that got them to Zyra I guess he could be the tax collector on the new world to pay him back. πŸ˜²πŸ’°πŸ›ƒ

Of course, he would try, but I doubt that he would emerge with enough political power to be anything more than a dependent. He could only work with his mind and it was obviously perverted.

People were a LOT more altruistic in the 1950's. So he probably wouldn't have had too hard a time to collect money from the crowd. Especially since he was handicapped. β™ΏπŸ˜΅
