Most Memorable Movie of My Childhood

When Worlds Collide (1951) is memorable for me because I first saw it when I was about six years old. It was the first apocalyptic movie I had seen. There were special circumstances, however. I saw it with a group of kids at a birthday party. I was the only kid that was left behind at the theatre!

It isn't my favorite sci-fi movie. That prize goes to Forbidden Planet (1956). It was my favorite as a kid and it is STILL my favorite. Walter Pidgeon and Anne Francis were never better and seeing a young Leslie Nelson is a treat.

When I was a kid, a friend and I caught Forbidden Planet on late night TV. That launched a life long passion for SciFi and adventure films and When Worlds Collide quickly made it on the list.

In those days there was nothing to do but comb the TV guide and hope these movies would show up. Lots of great memories there.

If you were a sci fi fan in the 50's and 60's you would have to be lucky to see these films come in the theatre and later on television. Seeing them was such a treat unlike these days where they have dedicatied Cable channels for 24/7 viewing. I think the older days were a little better. Less saturation. 👀👽🚀🌙

I saw this movie a couple of times on TV when I was a child and it scared the living daylights out of me! So course, I loved it.

Laugh while you can, Monkey Boy!
