The Dog

The dog seemed to disappear as soon as they reached the water at the end of their journey. Did I miss something? Anyone notice what happened to her?

Watched this movie with my wife and kids the other night over Thanksgiving break...they were looking for the dog also. I don't thinks anything happened... but my whole family of six was asking the same question. Great fun movie that my kids... 17,15,13,10... all enjoyed.

It doesn't say. I'm sure after all the care Ito took to get it so far, that he would have continued to care for the dog. It just doesn't come into play for the plot.

Honestly, I hate where this movie ends. It is really getting to the good part... and then it's over.

I mean, the whole journey is fantastic. But I would like to see how the ladies and fellows get along in the end.

I think the dog hooked up with a spaniel in town and lived happily ever after.

Just kidding... I really like this film and want to believe every body and every thing got their mate at the end.

Step on it! And don't spare the atoms!

I have no doubt the dog made it and lived happily ever after! Nothing was shown happening to the dog, for which I am so thankful, so I think we can assume the dog made out just fine. The ending focussed on the ladies meeting their men, and the dog was such a scene stealer it would have been distracting.

Amen! I have to make up the continuations, and I'd rather not! 👵

he became Ito's dog. That was established at the little boy's grave. the boy and his little dog were so adorable! thats one of the cutest little dogs i have seen in the movies.

We LOVED when the dog was riding in the bucket under the wagon!

reply

Yes, that was cute him riding in the bucket like that, but before, when they tied him under the wagon I thought he could have easily gotten killed. Why o why couldn't he just be put in the wagon?? He couldn't have weighed more than 15 pounds! It doesn't make sense a little dog like that to have to walk all that distance...

Since I have five dogs of my own, I am always watching the dogs in movies as much as the people.
This one was so cute and lovable.
When they all started racing for the water, I was cringing that someone was going to run over it. I thought, though, there had been enough death and depressing events happen, they just COULDN'T do that.
I am sure the dog was fine, but wish they had showed her one last time. I kept wating for her to come up to Ito as he was watching the marriages in the last shot.

In the scene where Buck is standing in the road and Ito is on his mule just before the women come into town, if you look close there is a white blob on the ground just to the right of Ito. I always supposed this to be the dog, and was just far enough away to be out of focus.
Maybe?
