Agreed. I had no trouble understanding Ralph Meeker or Michael Medwin, but between Viveca Lindfors' accent (which was not strong, but strong enough so that her English was not as clear as a native speaker's) and her tendency to talk softly, I have no idea what she said most of the time. I was able to decipher Mme Pasture's French-only conversation, even with my mediocre French skills, better than almost anything Viveca said in English. The overall plot was easy to follow, but the conversations between her and Ralph had to be interpreted from his comments.

The print is also rather dark, and since the pivotal scene happened at night, the action is hard to follow.

Nevertheless, it's a good movie and quite tense in places. It's well worth buying for fans of the actors or for those who enjoy gritty, true-to-life presentations of conditions in post-WWII Vienna.
