Having Tom beheaded by the guillotine (not shown) and the two mice walking away while eating food was kind of a morbid ending for me.

Yeah, I never got over that.

I think it's the only time someone is actually killed in a Tom and Jerry cartoon, and they picked the most depressing way to do it.

Tom died in another one too... The one with the "How to catch a mouse" book.

Interestingly, Nibbles states (in very non-chalant French) "Poor, poor pussycat. (Oh well,) that's life." as they stroll away with their loot.

A very morbid ending indeed!

Really, the subtitles on the cartoon in a compilation say he says (in french) "That's war!"
