I can't say I believe that anyone in real life would have taken June Allyson's character for a twelve-year-old, although at a distance, in subdued lighting (as in some of the backstage shots just before she goes on stage at the end of the movie), she does look remarkably convincing. This is probably owing not only to the child-like clothing and hairstyle, but also to her diminutive size. But what made me laugh was when it was stated in all seriousness that the character was actually twenty-two. Somehow asking me to accept thirty-three-year-old June as a twenty-two year old strains credulity more than expecting me to believe the characters in the movie believed she was twelve.

She's small in stature and has a tiny frame. I think that's all they really paid attention to. Obviously her face looks exactly the same as the young Molly as it does when she's the older sister Cynthia. It's a stretch but I suppose JA could pull it off as well as any other actress.

What bothered me was her voice. She did not have a young voice at all. Then again, we've been asked to suspend belief about other similar things in films, like forty year old men playing young servicemen, so, for the sake of the story, I went with it.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
